HOUSTON -- BYU and Houston squared off in the first round for a battle between two schools with the same mascots, double Cougars. BYU was able to pull the upset, as Orange was able to push his win streak to 8-0 to start the 2012 Sensationalizationalism tournament.
BYU was able to take a 7-3 lead into the half. Houston answered to take the lead in the second half, but could not hold on. Converting 7/11 on third downs allowed BYU to hold the ball for a total time of possession of 14:16 to Houston’s 5:44.
QB Jake Heaps had an outstanding game, finishing 12 of 15 for 123-yards and two touchdowns. Not to be outshined, HB JJ DiLuigi had 17 rushes for 119 yards and four catches for 45 yards. Brandon Ogletree lead the defense with six solo tackles.
#39 BYU will face the winner of #58 Purdue and #7 LSU in the second round.
